they don’t own or while using a rented or borrowed
vehicle. Example: 1) Pastor uses his personal auto
to call on members in the hospital. 2) Member picks
up kids in her own car every Sunday to bring them to
church. In either example, the church is protected
under this coverage if a lawsuit is filed against
them as a result of the accident. 3) The
church rents a van for a one week youth group
activity. This coverage provides liability
protection to the rented vehicle. Physical
Damage is normally not covered under this coverage
but can normally be included by special endorsement
for individual needs.

Should your Church be
carrying a Workers Compensation Policy?
- Georgia Law
requires churches with private employments of
three or more people to carry workers
compensation. This can be full or part time
employees even contracted labor that does not
carry their own workers comp policy.
What if you only have
one - three employees?
- It would be our
recommendation that you carry a policy even
though it is not required by law. It still
protects the church against lawsuit if an
employee is injured on the job and it
compensates the injured employee by paying
covered medical expenses and lost wages.
Your pastor is an
"independent contractor". Do we
still need to cover him?
- You hired your pastor as
an independent contractor. However, he is
not considered an independent contractor by workers
compensation definitions. Workers
Compensation has nine items that must be true
for a person to be excluded under workers
compensation and a pastor would NOT qualify.
Therefore, your pastor would be considered an
employee for workers compensation and would need
to be included under this policy.
